In the online “overtime” segment of HBO's “real-time” broadcast on Friday, former Chicago mayor Rahm Emmanuel discussed the poor approval ratings of Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, saying that other Democrats are not doing well, and focusing on safety, education and good finance, “We've been five years behind us, and it's a disaster.”
Host Bill Maher read “I read that Chicago's current mayor's approval rate is 6.6%. …What's going on in Chicago?”
Emmanuel replied: “Look, this is – We were talking about this a bit earlier. Also, you are not doing well in New York mayor, obviously, other things here in Los Angeles, mayors here. Look. And there are mayors like mayors in San Francisco and other cities. So I think there are general rules. When I was mayor, I had this. Focusing on these three things, your city will work. We are people too generous as a culture After five years that were too much of accommodating, they were everything. That's why everything is locked up in Walgreens and CVS. And it's a disaster. And I say this about our school, I don't want to hear another word about locker rooms, I don't want to hear another word about bathrooms. It's better to start focusing on the classroom. We had the worst reading score for 8th graders in 30 years, but not the governor, not the mayor, not the president, not the secretary of education.”
