The Blue Ghost Lander from Firefly Aerospace has descended from the lunar orbit on the autopilot.
The company's mission control, located outside Austin, Texas, confirmed the successful landing.

“You guys were landing. We're on the moon,” said Will Coogan, Lander's chief engineer, Freefly.
With its upright and stable landing, Fireflies became the first private company, placing the spacecraft without crashing or falling. Some governments working on spaceflight have failed in the past as only five countries in Russia, the US, China, India and Japan have succeeded.

Named after the unusual American firefly variety, the Blue Ghost is a four-legged lander standing 6 feet tall and 11 feet wide, offering additional stability, according to the company.
Approximately 30 minutes after landing, the Blue Ghost began sending back photos from the surface. The first image was a selfie that was somewhat obscure by the sun's glare.

Landers from two other companies will soon be on missions, with the next company expected to join Blue Ghost On The Moon later this week.
