Last week, a 72-year-old man suffering from multiple strokes 300 miles from Kailuakona in Kailuakona is recovering after being airlifted to hospital, the USCG announced.

The rescue video shows a Coast Guard Medevack helicopter floating above the Conningsdam ship on the Dutch American Line on Thursday. He then lowered the basket for men to enter before being taken to the Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu.

Honolulu, a joint rescue coordination centre, received a notification the day before that cruise passengers had multiple strokes, and flight surgeons recommended that the relief be made within 20 hours, the USCG said in a press release.

The next morning, crew members of the HC-130 Hercules plane and the crew of the MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Barbers Point of the Coast Guard Aviation Authority met a cruise ship about 60 miles south of Honolulu.

“Combining crew skills with aircraft professional capabilities will help us respond to emergencies in the vast Pacific region,” John Stockton, Burber's Point, Aircraft Commander, Hercules, said in a statement. “Teamwork is extremely important for Medevacs, one of the most time-sensitive and high-stakes missions we take on.”
