Another Manziel has become accustomed to the law.
Johnny Manziel's mother, Michelle, was arrested Saturday for driving while drunk in Carville, Texas. According to TMZ SportsMug shots have been released. She was reportedly held on $7,500 bail.
Kerrville is a suburb of San Antonio and rose to high school stardom before Manziel committed to Texas A&M, winning the Heisman Trophy as a freshman, and later became the first round draft pick of the NFL.
Johnny Manziel admitted to drinking and driving in 2015 when he was a member of the Browns.
His cousin, Bobby Joe Manziel, was reportedly sentenced to four years in prison for driving while drunk.
“Johnny Football”'s NFL career has been derailed by the substance abuse issues he's detailed since his retirement.
In a Netflix documentary, he said he admitted to frequent use of OxyContin and cocaine after the 2015 season (just before the Browns were released), and refused to enter rehabilitation twice.
Manziel said his refusal to seek treatment was strained in his relationship with his family.
“It's a long, long journey, and I don't know if it was great or if it's bad. It's still controversial,” his father, Paul Manziel, said in the documentary. “But we are blessed. And he is still with us. And we can still repair all the fences.”
It was a heartfelt conversation with his mother that Johnny praised him as returning to football when he signed with the CFL in 2018.
He last played in the Fan Control Football League in 2022.
Until reported last month, Johnny had a year-long relationship with Josie Canseco, the daughter of a former MLB slugger.
