Measles outbreak continues to spike with nearly 150 reported cases

The outbreak of measles in Texas continues to grow, with nearly 150 reported cases reported, with many more likely to be exposed.

The outbreak in West Texas caused one child to kill a child, leading to the death of American measles for the first time in 10 years.

State and local health officials say hundreds of thousands of San Antonio may have been exposed over Valentine's Day weekend. People who visited the area over the weekend later tested positive, KSAT12 reported.

Anitakurian, Associate Director of Communication Diseases for the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District, said: All NBC News. “We are destination cities. We have really great concerns about the potential large community-wide exposure on these public sites.”

This is a highly contagious virus that can infect 9 out of 10 people with one infected person in contact with.

As of Friday, 164 cases had been reported nationwide, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Officials say that while most of the community has been vaccinated against the virus, the threat remains. Vaccinations have proven to be a measure in the controversial but effective fight against the virus, as only five infected people are vaccinated.

Officials expect most cases to be confirmed later this week, as it takes time to see the revelations.

Most of the state's cases were among school-age children, with over 80% found in people under the age of 18.
