Conan O'Brien appears to be knocking on President Trump at the Oscar. Audiences say they are happy to see the fictional film characters confront the “powerful Russians.”
“You're good night for 'anora',” said 97 host O'BrienthThe annual Academy Awards were mentioned at a ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday.
“That's great news. It's already two wins,” the comedian said of the film. This is about a sex worker who marries the son of a Russian oligarch.
“I think Americans are excited to see someone end up facing the powerful Russian,” O'Brien applauded the audience.
Without naming him, it looked like a Trump swipe following a tense oval office meeting between the president, Vice President Vance and Ukrainian President Voldymir Zelensky on Friday. During the occasional, heated, explosive exchange, Trump and Zelensky argued about US support for Ukraine.
Several Republican politicians, including GOP strategists Karl Rove and Rep. Mike Lawler (NY), have publicly criticised the clash between Trump and Zelensky, saying that the only winner of the controversial meeting was Russian President Vladimir Putin.
