Tim Walz says he may run for president in 2028

The failed 2024 case was that Democratic vice president candidate Tim Waltz said he would “certainly consider” running for president in 2028 despite an overwhelming defeat this November along with then-President Kamala Harris.

“Look, I had no ambitions to be president or vice president. The Governor of Minnesota was honoured to be asked. “New Yorker Radio Hours” On Sunday. “If I feel I can serve, I will. And nationwide, people say, “We'll try you and see how it works, like, 'I'm fine with that.”

“If I think I can offer something… I'll certainly take that into consideration.”

Waltz, 60, recently ruled out running to replace Democrat Sen. Tina Smith, who retired in 2026. He is eligible to run for a third term as governor of 10,000 Lake Land in 2026, but he did not say whether he would.

On Sunday, Waltz told host David Remnick that he was “not rog-harmful enough to believe there are so many people who can do this,” but added, “if things are right,” he feels “I have the right skill set for now… I'll do that.”

In search of a more definitive answer by Remnick, the governor replied, “I will do whatever it needs.”

Harris' choice of waltz raised eyebrows after Veep chose to choose Josh Shapiro, a popular Democratic governor in Swing State Pennsylvania.

Harris' running buddies failed to move the needle in the direction of the Democrats. It was the second best start in a debate with Republican JD Vance, losing Minnesota's Home Blue Earth County.

On Sunday, Waltz said democratic defeat was “something I take to the grave.”

“The older white guy who ran for the Vice President will land pretty well on your feet. But I'm still struggling with it… When I see the Medicaid cuts happening, when I see LGBTQ people being demonized, when I see some of this happening, it's my weight,” he told Remnick.

After spending 12 years as a member of Congress before acquiring governor in 2018, Waltz told New Yorkers he “eats glass” rather than returning to the Capitol by explaining his decision not to seek Smith's seat.

If Walz is re-elected as Minnesota's deep blue governor and serves until 2031, he will become the longest serving chief executive in the state's history.
