American MLS Player Mocks Canadian Fans Who Booed US Anthem

American football star Brian White took a subtle shot at Canadian fans who booed the US national anthem before the Vancouver Whitecaps played the Los Angeles Galaxy on Sunday night.

The booing trend began on February 1st, when Ottawa fans booed the US national anthem before the match against the Minnesota Wild. After Canadian hockey fans booed the US, Canadian basketball fans picked up the trend by booing the Los Angeles Clippers before a game against the Toronto Raptors.
The national anthem war did not calm down during the four-country showdown where the US and Canada faced off twice. On a particularly loud night in Montreal, we saw Team USA and Canada drop their gloves and compete in the first nine seconds after booing the US national anthem thoroughly.

The booing came on the same day President Trump signed an executive order placing tariffs on goods from Canada and Mexico. He was also joking on social media that Canada will be “51st state.”

On Saturday night, Canadian fans also booed the US national anthem during the WWE Elimination Chamber event.

Playing for Vancouver, White roasted his own fans in postgame comments after kicking the game's winning goal.

“I would like to thank the fans for cheering and applauding the national anthem and showing that they respected the flag,” he said. Daily Hibe Vancouver. “Obviously there's a problem. It's not my business and I'll leave it as is.”

The boo came despite fans pleasing from public address announcers to respect the US national anthem. Whitecaps won the game 2-1.
