FAA opens probe on flight alerts near DC-area airport

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating why flights approaching Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport were alerted about possible aircraft nearby, despite not being in the area.

The FAA said in a statement to Fox News Digital that several flight attendants had received the alert.

“The FAA is investigating why the alert was raised,” the agency added.

The FAA did not specify what the airline received the alert.

The investigation comes amid a series of safety accidents a week after an American Airlines flight arriving at Ronald Reagan Airport in Arlington, Virginia was forced to suspend landings to avoid another aircraft.

Investigators are still investigating a January 29 air collision between an American Airlines plane and a US Black Hawk helicopter on the Potomac River near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, which killed dozens of people.

A few days later, a Medevac Jet crashed in Philadelphia, killing seven people.
