Roki Sasaki strikes out five in Dodgers spring training debut

Sasaki's introduction to the Kakutos League was dominant.

The Dodgers' Phenom hit more than three scoreless innings in his spring training debut on Tuesday night in a 4-2 victory with the Reds at Arizona's Camelback Ranch.

Sasaki, 23, pitched behind Yoshinobu Yamamoto and entered five innings against the Reds.

He had one runner (single, hit on the pitch) before shutting down the threat with consecutive strikeouts against TJ Friedle and Matt McClain.

Throwing 46 pitches on his outing, Sasaki worked for the sixth second and third jams, then cut off his night with two more strikeouts, finishing things off with Carlos Jorge's punch-out.

Japan's right-hander hit more than 98 mph in 14 times, leading the way with 99.3.

Sasaki led all the pitchers in the contest with eight swings and mistakes.

Sasaki signed with the Dodgers this offseason after a free agency for Barry Who, including the Padres and the Blue Jays as finalists.

Sasaki agreed to a minor league contract with Los Angeles in January. This included a $6.5 million signature bonus. He was considered an international amateur free agent under major league baseball rules, and had Pacific League Cibalotte Marines under the postal system.

Had Sasaki waited two more years, he could have ordered a nine-figure contract as a free agent.

For Sasaki, the past few weeks have been quite eventful, not just his MLB debut.

At the end of February, Sasaki announced on Instagram that she had married.

Now he's been away for a few weeks since trying to help the Dodgers win their second straight World Series ring.
