L.A. Times Columnist Celebrates South Carolina Wildfires; Says California Off the Hook!

Los Angeles Times Columnist Michael Hiltzik writes an article celebrating the South Carolina wildfires. Because it means that California is no longer exposed to such fires and believes it will not face the conditions of the federal fund.

The South Carolina fire was described extensively and extensively. But 4,200 acres on Tuesday – about a sixth of the size of one of the two major fires that destroyed a huge portion of Los Angeles in early January.

Hiltic, a well-known leftist opinion writer, ignores the fact that California fires are mismanaged by state and local governments each year, and attacks Republicans in order to demand policy changes in exchange for aid.

he I'm writing:

[T]His Carolina fire could have positive consequences that are likely to quell all the stupid stories, from coast to coast, especially on California. Attach strings to federal wildfire disaster relief.

The threat was made by Trump. His disaster emperor, Rick Grenell; House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.); Senator John Baraso (R-Wyo.)a member of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry's GOP Leadership. and Rep. Byron Donald (r-fla.)among many others. Members of the right-wing Peanuts Gallery are also pitching, including the Fox News Mouthpiece. Sean Hannity and Jesse Watters.

Hiltzig argues that the Republicans' proposed aid conditions are “meaningless” and have nothing to do with the fire. For example, they attack Ambassador Rick Grenell, wanting to refund the Coastal Commission. He ignores the fact that the Coastal Commission blocked reasonable efforts to make more water available, and ignores that this often hinders wise development. Governor Gavin Newsom himself has it Paused Coastal Commission rules to help victims rebuild.

Hiltzik also ignores reasonable and widely accepted suggestions, such as the need to create special masters to oversee federal fund payments, given the tendency to misallocate funds for other purposes. For example, in 2019, co-authors of California's Cap and Trade Act I complained Democrats had diverted funds from his own party – “for investments that were hardly related to the original intentions” of the program.

Even the left-leaning capital public radio hindrance Newsom for not spending his budget on preventing wildfires – and lied about it.

All states face natural disasters. It seems that only California cannot learn from experience.
