A man broke into a Florida home and the children entered late Tuesday night and rushed to the victim, police said.
However, authorities said one of the adults in the house had a gun and fatally shot the suspected intruder.

Lake City Police Station Officer He told WCJB-TV They discovered a 31-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound at Leslie Glen's home in the southwest, about 11pm, was just over an hour west of Jacksonville.
In addition to the station, officers added that a man had broken into the house and several people were inside, including children. The WCJB added that the intruder reportedly knew the victim.
However, police said another adult fired multiple shots when the man rushed towards the victim, the station reported. The man in question was killed, WCJB said.
Officers are asking anyone with information about the case to contact detective Pepin at 386-719-5749, the station said.
