Defense Secretary Pete Hegses responded to China's claims that “types of war” are ready following President Donald Trump's 10% tariff increase.

Lin condemned the US fentanyl crisis and completely rejected the allegation that China is liable for any responsibility. Instead, he argued that China helped the US deal with the issue.
“Instead of recognizing our efforts, the US is trying to turn responsibility into China and pressure and intimidate China on tariff hikes. They have been punishing us by helping them.
“Black-in-threatening does not scare us. Bullying doesn't work for us. Pressure, coercion, or threat is not the right way to deal with China.
Lin concluded that China is prepared for “a kind of war.”
“If the US has other agendas in mind and the war is what the US wants, if it's a tariff war, a trade war, or another type of war, we're ready to fight to the end.
In response to a 20% tariff on Chinese imports, China has imposed a 15% tariff on US agricultural products.
Wednesday, Heggs I responded China's threat to war preparations and threats with himself.
“We're ready,” Heggs told Fox & Friends.
“Those who will prolong peace must prepare for war,” he continued. “That's why we are rebuilding our military. That's why we are reestablishing the deterrence of the warrior's mind. We live in a dangerous world with powerful, ascendant nations with very different ideologies.”
Hegseth noted that China is “rapidly increasing” its technology and defense spending.
He said Trump “understands that peace comes through strength.”
“If we want to stop war with the Chinese and others, we must be strong,” he added.
“My job as Secretary of Defense is to make sure we are ready,” he continued. “We need defence spending, capabilities, weapons and an Indo-Pacific attitude. This is something we are very focused on.”
