Majority says Eric Adams should resign as NYC mayor: Survey

Most New York City voters say Mayor Eric Adams, who is campaigning for a second term, should step down, according to a new poll.

Quinnipiac University poll It turns out that 56% of voters released Wednesday are saying Adams, a Democrat who is caught up in the federal corruption investigation, will soon resign, with 35% saying he should stay.

The results were split along the party line. Over 70% of Democrats who voted said they should resign, while 68% of Republicans said he should stay in office.

Adams, who was elected mayor in 2021, has faced calls from dozens of fellow Democrats to resign since being charged last year with federal accusations of bribery, wire fraud and solicitation of illegal campaign donations. He denied any misconduct.

The case is pending indefinitely and the Federal Department of Justice (DOJ) indicates that the charges can be removed. After President Trump's 2024 campaign was successful, Adams began working with the new administration on immigration issues. He especially appeared alongside Trump's border emperor Tom Homan in January's “Fox and Friends” and made a joint effort.

Approximately 73% of voters surveyed in the latest polls say they are following the development of corruption cases. Only 13% of New Yorkers said they thought Adams was legally or ethically wrong.

A Quinnipiac poll found Adams' approval rate was record low, with only 20% of voters in favor of how he handles his job as mayor. 67% disapproved, while 13% had no opinions.

It is the lowest position approval rating among New York City mayors in nearly 30 years since Quinnipiac pollers are investigating voters in New York City. In December 2023, he won the previous record low from Adams.

A Quinnipiac poll surveyed 1,260 New York City voters from February 27th to March 3rd. There is an error of 2.8% points. The margin of error in the outcome limited to 771 self-identified registered Democrats has an error of 3.5 percentage points.
