Jack Hughes is over again this year.
The Devils star had shoulder surgery on Wednesday, and the team announced he would miss the rest of his 2024-25 campaign.
Hughes left the Sunday night game, fell on the board and appeared to hold his shoulder as he left the ice.
After that game, Devils head coach Sheldon Keefe said “it's really hard to see.” [Hughes] He added that the injury “didn't look good.”
He is expected to make a full recovery for the Devils training camp ahead of next season and return.
In 62 games this season, the two All-Stars scored 27 Devils High goals with 43 assists, helping to keep New Jersey in Eastern Conference playoff photos.
The Devils are sitting third in the Metropolitan division, 33-24, heading for Wednesday's play.
The 23-year-old Hughes played all six of the NHL season with the Devil after being drafted first overall by the team in the 2019 entry draft.
This is the second year in a row that has shortened Hughes' season.
Hughes had shoulder surgery last April, missing out on the last three games of the 2023-24 season.
From 2021-22, Hughes missed 17 games after dislocating his shoulder.
