Texas Eagle Pass – Vice President JD Vance said that while the Trump administration has made great strides in canceling the damage caused by the Biden-Harris administration, “Rome couldn't be built in one day.”
“President Biden has destroyed the entire country's immigration enforcement opportunities. We are trying to restructure people to actually empower immigration laws. …That's common sense. That's what the American people want to do,” Vance said in response to a question about the issue of Blaze Media.
Vance traveled to South Texas with Secretary of Defense Pete Hegses and the Director of National Intelligence to meet with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R), the Border Patrol and local leaders, discussing what had been improved and what still needed to be fixed.
“This costs money,” Vance said of the deportation operation. “One of the most important parts of the president's reconciliation priorities is, of course, tax reform on the one hand, while ensuring that they have the right resources to be able to pay for the flight.”
Vance argued that the Trump administration is working to expand the scope of deportation every day, and that “we will work on it for the rest of our presidential term.”
“We have to do more, but America is finally on the right track.”
Director Gabbard revealed that ISIS-related smuggling networks used Biden-Harris' open border to bring thousands of Central Asians to the United States, including many that have a lot of ties with terrorist groups. Some were arrested in 2024, but Gabbard said only eight people were deported or detained.
“The rest of them have been released to our country. Where are they? What are they doing? What are they plotting? This is just the beginning. There are a lot of areas where we need to focus on,” Gabbard said.
One of the Trump administration's brightest spots is the historic decline in illegal crossings. From the daily highs of up to 10,000 illegal intersections during the Biden-Harris administration, daily encounters by the US Border Patrol today are just 300.
The dramatic decline in intersections is a welcome relief for border towns like Eagle Pass.
“President Trump has breathed fresh air into Texas and the country. My district was at the epicenter of this crisis. Communities along the border, such as Eagle Pass, Del Rio and El Paso, are safer due to the White House's common sense border policy changes.
President Trump has implemented tariffs on Mexico and Canada because he hasn't done enough to curb the fentanyl flow. Vance said the US does not want to have unfriendly ties with its neighbors, but the situation must change.
“Look, the president clearly cares the American people very deeply. He serves the Americans first. I think he actually has a great favor with the Mexican people because if they don't control these cartels, the Mexican people will wake up to a drug state where the cartels have more power than their own government,” Vance explained.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said he will announce tariffs on US goods on Sunday in Zocaro, Mexico City.
