One of the largest local authorities representing security guards in Big Apple's public schools, universities, housing and homeless shelters, supports mayor Governor Andrew Cuomo.
The 25,000-person Teamsters Local 237 head claimed that the 67-year-old Cuomo was the perfect choice to “deal with the problems we are facing.”
“Cuomo knows how to manipulate things. He knows how to run cities,” union president Gregory Floyd said Thursday that Pol set the stage for a comeback bid.
“He is the best candidate in the race to address the issues we are facing.”
Floyd told the mayor Eric Adam had been known for 30 years and in 2021 he did not support him.
“Are I surprised?” he cynically said about Adams' scandal-scarred tenure at City Hall.
New York City Council speaker Adrian Adams announced the mayor's run on Wednesday – Floyd said she was “very late to the race.”
According to Labor Insider, Teamsters' support for Cuomo is “important” because it “destroys support within city unions.”
This means neither Eric or Adrian Adams can expect overwhelming support from unions representing hundreds of thousands of city government officials.
Cuomo also recently landed approvals from several construction labor unions, including the New York City Carpenter Council.
The mayoral primary election is scheduled to take place on June 24th.
The former three-term governor has made a comeback bid for the mayor after resigning as state chief executive due to a number of sexual misconduct accusations he has denied.
Floyd said Cuomo's strengths outweigh his flaws, and President Trump has been elected president despite a 34-count conviction of forging business records in a hash money case involving porn star Stormy Daniels.
Trump claimed that the prosecution was a partisan witch hunt.
“We need someone to run the city properly,” Floyd said.
According to recent polls, Cuomo is at the forefront of the mayor's Democratic primary.
Other candidates running in the Democratic primary include Sen. Jessica Ramos and Zellner Miley, city director Brad Lander, state legislative member Zoran Mamdani, former Assemblyman Michael Blake, former city director Scott Stringer and financier Whitney Tilson.
Guardian Angels founder Curtis Swa has been declared the Republican candidate for mayor.
