Sanctuary Mayors Showed They Handled ‘Influx’ Well

On Thursday's “CNN This Morning,” Councilman Suhas Subramanyam (D-VA) discussed the sanctuary city hearing in council on Wednesday, and answered questions about the vision on the issue by praising how the mayor actually declined, as he spoke about how he actually defeated crime.

Host Audi Cornish said, “I saw some sort of division there. Democrats say you're going to school, you're going to take your kids out of the classroom. Republicans say you've let gang members hang out in your prison for hot hours without working with the ice. It's like drawing two very different visions. Do you think Democrats can resonate more for their vision?”

Subramanyam replied. “Well, I thought the mayor did something great. They talked about how crime actually decreased, even with the undocumented influx of immigrants. Of the immigrants who enter the community, who actually committed crimes at a much lower percentage than the average American. And in general, they talked about what they're doing to trying to handle the influx of immigrants. I'm glad they're amazing, honest, and – and -.”

Cornish asks cut. “But is that worried about you? When you think about the Biden administration, the Harris administration, this was often the talk of Democrats, but things aren't as bad as you say. It didn't resonate with voters.”

Subramanyam replied. And the facts were spoken for themselves. They talked about how they were able to get people to housing. They got people's jobs. And they managed to run through what was going on and do a good job with it. And we also had a fact. We talked about the bill they were trying to propose. If they welcome immigrants, they will basically repay every city from federal funds. This is really bad for many of these cities' public safety. They will actually make the crime worse and not good by doing it. ”

Subramanyam added that cities will deal with illegal immigrants who have committed violent crimes “in practice and with public safety in mind.”
