Education Department shutdown 'needs to be priority': Jonathan Butcher

Heritage Foundation fellow Jonathan Butcher said closing the Department of Education (DOE) “must be a priority for conservatives.”

President Trump was expected to sign the executive order on Thursday, but requested newly minted Education Secretary Linda McMahon to begin disbanding the department, but White House officials confirmed with News Nation that this has not happened.

Butcher, a researcher at a conservative Heritage Foundation think tank, noted that “improvement” through “important parts” of the education sector. However, he also acknowledged that some programs are “important.”
