Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and his wife Casey have called on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to stop recommendations for Covid-19 vaccines for children, and have called on the state legislature to permanently ban mRNA mandates and add vaccination status protections to the Patient Rights Bill.

“Learned by common sense and healthy science, Florida has led ways of protecting patient rights. Desantis (R-Fla.) said: “Let Florida beacon of healthcare freedom, where all patient rights are forever enshrined in the law.”

“Today, General Ledapo Governor DeSantis and I called on the Florida Legislature to make a permanent ban on the COVID mRNA vaccine order,” said First Lady Casey DeSantis. “Florida was standing in violation during Covid to protect people. Now it's time to make sure these protections continue.”

“We are deeply grateful to Governor Ron and First Lady Casey DeSantis for continuing to place Floridian needs and rights first,” said Dr. Joseph A. Radapau. “These proposals are looking forward to strengthening patient sovereignty and moving forward with federal partners at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.”

The appeal by Desantis to ban the mRNA vaccine mandate is a law that already exists in the sunshine but expires in June.

DeSantis said he doesn't know why Congress added an expiration date to the bill, but he is calling on lawmakers to extend the ban and make it permanent.

“We cannot evaporate these protections,” he said as Congress reunited the first week of the regular session.

Vaccination status protection prohibits doctors from refusing treatment to anyone based on their vaccination status.

Over the past few years, lawsuits have emerged that Disney World employees, firefighters and others have been fired for refusing to be vaccinated during the pandemic.

“I was talking about how I liked these firefighters. These guys were on the frontline and during Covid they were doing something to help people. A lot of them were exposed. That's part of the job. They did that,” DeSantis said. “They didn't want to take mRNA, so they lost their jobs. It was like a big contest.”
