President Donald Trump's Department of Homeland Security announced Friday that it had concluded a collective bargaining agreement with more than 50,000 security officials from the Transportation Security Agency.
According to DHS press releasethe administration hopes the move will remove “bureaucratic hurdles that enhance the agility of the workforce.” [and] Jump innovation while increasing productivity and resilience. ”
“We're removing the collective bargaining constraints.”
The department alleged that the “gap in benefits programs” was misused by some, including one example of transport security guards requesting sick leave over six months ago.
“More than 86% of airports, TSA is doing full-time union work, more than 86% of airports are running screening functions. [perform] The screening function was claimed by DHS.
It was noted that nearly 200 employees receiving the government will pay “full-time on union issues.”
The Trump administration's DHS denounced the unionization of the TSA as they allowed “poor performers” to stay at work and “met-based performances” to force them to take the backseat.
“By eliminating collective bargaining agreements, transportation security personnel will have the opportunity based on performance rather than longevity or membership,” declared DHS.
A department spokesman said the union failed to represent the workers or their interests.
“The Trump administration is committed [to] The spokesman said he would return to merit-based employment and layoff policies.[] The whole national transportation network. The TSA is renewing its commitment to providing Americans with a fast and safe travel process. ”
TSA Administrator Adam Stahl applause DHS secretary Kristi Noem to “remove collective bargaining constraints.”
The Federation of US Government Employees, a union representing more than 80,000 federal workers, called the DHS decision “an unattacked attack” and “clear retaliation.”
AFGE National President Everett Kelly It is listed“47,000 transport security guards appear at over 400 airports every day to ensure that the sky is safe for air travel. Many of them are veterans who will never happen again, wearing second uniforms protecting their homelands from serving the military country and ensuring another terrorist attack, like September 11th.”
Kelly accused the Trump administration and Noem of violating workers' “right to join union.”
“They gave a fully manufactured claim about union staff as justification. This action made it clear that it had nothing to do with efficiency, security or homeland security. This is just an excuse to attack the rights of ordinary Americans across the country, as they happen to belong to the union,” Kelly continued. “Our union is challenging the administration's illegal actions targeting federal workers in both courts and public opinion courts. TSA officials are currently paying the price in this clearly retaliatory lawsuit.”
