On HBO's “real-time” broadcast on Friday, host Bill Maher responded to a proposal that Democrats should shut down the government over differences with the Trump administration. Every time a closure is threatened, “It's always the end of the world…and you're going to crash the economy. But are you okay now?”
Alyssa Farah Griffin, co-host of ABC's The View and CNN political commentator, “The View,” said: I think Democrats need to show they're happy to play hardball. No one wins when government shutdowns. Let's be clear. That's not good for the public. But they need some sort of real action, not just whining outside federal buildings. ”
Maher said, “When Democrats threaten to do it, it's always the end of the world, I don't know how we can do this. When you shut down the government, we won't pay our bills, and we'll pay all the rest of the shit that goes on, you'll crash the economy. But are you okay now?”
