Mexican National Guardsman Convicted of Helping Cartel Car Theft Ring in Texas

Members of the Mexican National Guard pleaded guilty to using their position to aid in the theft rings of vehicles supplying vehicles to the Gulf Cartels in Mexico from Texas.

On Friday morning, Luis Enrique Guzman Pablo went before the US Magistrate for Southern District Judge Nadia Medrano, where he pleaded guilty to one count of a conspiracy to fraudulent the United States. He is expected to be sentenced at a later date. Guzman has been in federal custody since his arrest in July 2024.

Guzman was assigned to conduct traveler testing on the Mexican side of the Veteran International Bridge in Brownsville, Texas, according to criminal charges based on an investigation by the U.S. Homeland Security Investigation. He swings around a stolen vehicle for his companions connected to the Gulf Cartel. Guzman received $150 per stolen vehicle, passed through the inspection area, and told investigators five to six vehicles a day. The man told investigators he was coordinating the intersection of the vehicle with the two men who hired him, court documents revealed.

During the investigation, authorities found photos of the vehicle stolen on Guzman's phone. He uses it to identify which vehicles are careful to pass.

At the time of the plot, the city of Brownsville and several other cities in the Rio Grande Valley experienced an exponential increase in vehicle theft that had been passed down to Mexico at the request of the Gulf Cartel. As reported by Breitbart Texas, a series of ongoing lawn battles have led the Gulf Cartel to use four-door trucks to move gunmen for those shootouts.

The increase in vehicle theft has been worrisome in Brownsville and other cities, with gunmen taking vehicles at muzzle. In the parking lots of popular restaurants and shopping centres, Breitbart Texas reported.
