Call her Adrian.
NYC Council speaker Adrienne Adams launched a mayoral campaign at Queens Shopping Center on Saturday, showing off campaign posters and other literature highlighting only her name.
“Adrienne. Democrats for the Mayor of New York in a Bold Letter” were hung in a shopping center in Rochdale Village. There, the speaker was greeted by around 300 supporters.
Her last name was listed only in the small print at the bottom. No other campaign materials could mention it at all.
When asked if she was focusing on her name to distance herself from the mayor, the speaker said, “You got caught up in it, isn't it, Adrian for people.”
Campaign Insider confirmed that the name game is to make sure you don't think it has anything to do with her political rival.
The mayor's former allies are now one of his most stubborn critics, and together with factions on the far left of the council, defending the controversial sanctuary city status of NYC.
She argues that Adams wants to work with President Donald Trump on immigration and other policy matters to avoid prosecution for federal corruption charges.
The speaker's campaign kickoff failed to attract two prominent black elected leaders in their home borough.
