Greenville, South Carolina – Kim Malky likes to win. She likes to win at any time, anywhere, in any format, in any venue.
But after seeing one of her star players – All Sec Forward Anesamorow – Exit LSUIn the semi-finals of the SEC tournament to Texas, she is really not sure why the conference tournament is still a problem. Mulkey, who won 11 big 12 tournaments during her tenure at Baylor, has no longer seen that point or validity, at least in women's college basketball.
“I've won a lot of conference tournaments. Everyone loves to win. Everyone loves to get the trophy,” Markie said. “But at the end of the day, I'm also in the injured tournament. Those kids couldn't play in the NCAA tournament, the most important tournament. To be honest, I don't know why we play them.”
Mulkey added: You had to play, but I was not a conference tournament fan. It's too long for me. If there is a conference tournament, do you really need all 16 teams in the conference tournament? I don't know. They don't care what we're thinking, right? The administrator makes all decisions. We're just giving our opinions. They either like it or don't. ”
Moreau, who has become the AP national this season and leads the country in rebounds, fell early in the third quarter and had to be helped by the court. She later returned to the LSU bench with padded boots on her left foot and didn't enter the game again as the Tigers fell 56-49 to the Longhorns.
After the match, Markey said she suffered at the beginning of the season, saying Moreau had “reorganized the spine along the way.” She is the second LSU star who has to tackle a lower body injury this month. Point guard Frauje Johnson missed the final three games while dealing with inflammation in her shins.
Johnson and Moreau are two main goal scorers at LSU this season, averaging 18.9 and 18.5 points per game, respectively. Together with them, LSU looked like one of the best teams in the country. This season we have set a record of locking up hosting rights for the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament.
But without them, the Tigers could find themselves in the crosshairs of insanity in March.
Despite his rage due to the conference tournament and frustration over the player being injured, Malkey assured people at a post-match press conference that Morrow and Johnson would return to the NCAA tournament.
“Yeah, yeah, I can go (tomorrow). She can go to the (NCAA) tournament. She was ready to come back there,” Markie said. “We have wins and losses, playoff hosting. Flau'jae is back. Everything is good… We have everyone.”
