Kadary Richmond records St. John’s first triple-double since 1999

Milwaukee – Cuddary Richmond joined Select Company on Saturday.

St. John's player creating triple doubles.

The last one came on January 9, 1999 by Ron Artsest (now Metta Sandyford Arrest).

“That means a lot to me and my teammates,” Richmond said after his sixth St. John's thrilling 86-84 overtime victory over No. 20 Marquette at the Fiserv Forum. “We've been doing historic things all season, so this time it's personal. But I'll give them everything. They made shots, they made big plays.”

In 42 minutes, Richmond only had 10 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists, four steels and two turnovers.

His shot was off – he was 13-for-5 years old from the field, but otherwise he was great.

His biggest play was stealing.

Simeon Wilcher retrieved Carom and fed Zuby Ejiofor for a shot in the match with Buzzer.

“I think he's tired and has overcome the fatigue,” St. John coach Rick Pitino said of his star senior security guard. “We played a big game.”

The Hall of Fame coach added: He owns everything, listens, and is extremely intelligent. It's always about his teammates, not about him. First triple double [for a St. John’s player] Because Ron Artest and he don't even dab the back a bit. That type of humility in today's generation is something I'm proud of. ”

Wilcher enjoyed his best game in weeks, producing 13 points, 3 assists and a block in 41 minutes. He came in with a bigger role in Davon Smith (right shoulder).

St. John's 27 regular-season victory coincides with program records set by the 1985-86 team.
