Minnesota has re-signed Aaron Jones on a two-year, $20 million contract, according to multiple reports.
After the Vikings refused to place the franchise tag on Sam Darnold, former Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers surfaced as a free agency “dark horse” option, they're putting another weapon in place for anyone who's next season.
Jones, 30, would have known Rogers well from being with him in Green Bay. It concludes its breakout season in its first year with the Vikings.
He played all the games and recorded career-highs in rushing yards (1,138), touches (306), (255) and offensive snaps (700).
His 1,546 yards from scrimmage was the second most in his career.
After seven seasons at Green Bay, Jones led Minnesota to a 14-3 record, earning one game behind the NFC's North Victory Lions, then lost to the Rams (27-9) in the wildcard round.
Jones is affordable for Minnesota, and Jones is the main weapon in the Vikings' offense featuring receivers Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, and should be an attractive destination for free-agent quarterbacks.
