Slotkin says Trump has Democrats ‘on their heels’ since election

Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) has argued that since the election, President Trump has had Democrats “on their heels.”

slotkin Participation NBC News' “Meet the Press” was asked by host Kristen Welker on Sunday if Democrats have a leader to help them navigate the Trump administration.

“Look, I mean, people know me, I'm pretty easy. I don't think it's a secret that Democrats have been on their heels since Trump won the election, right?” Slotkin said. “I don't think it's…hidden.”

Slotkin, who recently delivered a rebuttal to President Trump's joint speech to Congress, emphasized that Trump had succeeded in “a flood of the zone” and issued new acts and orders every day since he took office.

Like many other Democrats and strategists, Slotkin called for a new group of leaders to move forward. But the Michigan Senator emerged as a bright spot for Democrats after Trump's chaotic speech and then she gave a balanced speech.

“I don't think we'll get better until we admit that there's a problem. I think some of the new voices at the party are excited, right? A new senator, a new representative, “Hey, we need to do more, and we need to show that we actually have a plan to stand up at the really important moment of inflection,” Slotkin said.

“That's what I'm trying to do from within,” she added.
