For most Illinois students, learning ability is limited by postal code. However, between 2017 and 2023, thousands of low-income students had new opportunities.

If established, the program will provide scholarships to K-12 students and can be used for tuition fees for private schools and other educational expenses. These costs include educational technology, online curriculum materials, pre-placement exam or university application fees, and specialized education resources for students with disabilities.

Sabrina Sibby has sent her children to private schools through her children's programs and found a school near her home that meets her unique needs at important and formative times in her life.

The reason behind the hostility of the teachers' union's school choice is simple. Giving Illinois families the right to alternative school options means that some students will not choose public schools.
