SCOTUS to Review CO Therapist’s Challenge to ‘Conversion Therapy’ Ban

The Supreme Court has agreed to consider the challenge of Colorado therapists to state laws that prohibit mental health care providers from treating minors with same-sex attraction that they don't want to treat minors.

“Cary and professional counselor in Colorado Springs, Colorado Springs challenged the law in 2022, claiming it interfered with the ability to treat individuals with “same-sex attractions or gender identity confusion.” hill.

“The court's decision to take on her challenge comes after a previous judge. I've distant opportunity Emphasis is placed on the prohibition of conversion therapy. The case is scheduled to be heard during the next annual term of the Supreme Court, which begins in October.”

The federal district court rejected Chile's previous request when it sued in 2022, which appealed to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court denied her first request in 2023, but conservative justice Brett Kavanaugh, Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas said they considered the case.

“[Under the state law] A licensed counselor cannot express anything other than a state-recognized opinion regarding minors with gender discomfort without facing punishment,” Thomas wrote in his five-page opinion at the time. All CNN.

“The court has refused to take this particular case, but there is no doubt that the issues it presents will come before the court again,” he added. “If so, the court should do what should be done here: grant a certificate to consider what the initial amendment requires.”

In a brief opposition, Justice Alito said the High Court should address the issue of the split between the lower courts.

“In recent years, 20 states and the District of Columbia have adopted laws that prohibit or restrict conversion therapy practices,” writes Alito. “It goes beyond controversy that these laws limit speeches and that all speech restrictions are carefully scrutinized.”
