Male, 45, accused of putting newborn in dumpster hit with new charges; 16-year-old mother claims 3-year relationship with him

The 45-year-old man accused of placing an infant in a trash can in Memphis faces five new charges, including promoting prostitution and worsening statutory rape of minors. Wreg-TV reported.

Additionally, the 16-year-old mother of the deceased infant told police she had been in a three-year relationship with the man in question, the station said.

His bond against the new fee is $1 million.

James Booth was originally charged with abuse of a body, the station said Previous Report. However, Wreg said the charges were dismissed Friday morning due to lack of prosecution.

However, the station said Booth was newly charged with two trafficking trafficking for commercial sex, promoting continued sexual abuse prostitution in children and exacerbating statutory rape.

What is the background?

Police said Wreg reported that the 16-year-old gave birth on his way to the hospital in January.

After searching the area, officers said they found the baby dead, the station reported, adding that the newborn's body was in a bag.

Booth was arrested the following day and was taken into prison on $250,000 bonds, Wreg reported, and on Jan. 30 he appeared in court and said the judge could spend up to six years in prison if convicted.

The station added that court records show that the 16-year-old admitted that he had been involved with Booth for three years at the time of his arrest.

The Shelby County District Attorney's Office told WREG “We are continuing to consider abuse of the corpse allegations against potential indictments along with additional charges.” Remember, if the charges are dismissed in a general session, they will not prevent them from pursuing the charges and moving forward as more evidence becomes available.

The booth remained in prison on Tuesday. His bond against the new fee is $1 million. There are no court dates listed.
