Ex-JPMorgan banker Jes Staley claims Jeffrey Epstein knew more about ‘upper levels’ of bank than he did

The former JPMorgan Chase executive testified in a London courtroom that Jeffrey Epstein knew what was going on at the top level of the bank than he did.

Jess Staley, who became Barclays' CEO following a stint at JP Morgan, claimed that Epstein, a convicted child sex offender and dishonest investor who died in prison in 2019, had the “amazing ability” to bring together Wall Street Inter. According to a Bloomberg report.

“Mr. Epstein was also well connected within the upper levels of JPMorgan itself,” Staley sued on the second day in the witness box, claiming a proposal to ban from London's financial regulatory body and a $2.3 million fine.

“He seemed to know something related to banks, and I didn't notice,” Staley added.

He admitted that his relationship with Starry-Epstein has surpassed his job, as he is trying to overturn a lifetime ban announced by Financial Conduct Authority in 2023.

“It was founded on a business relationship,” the former Barclays boss said. “He's become friends.”

He said Epstein told him about his own departure from Jpmorgan before he knew it.

“The bank was more important to him than any other way,” Staley said.

JPMorgan Chase officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

In 2000, then-JP Morgan executive Douglas “Sandy” Warner told Staley that he should get to know Epstein, Staley argued in a witness statement.

“Sandy Warner recommended I get to know Mr. Epstein because he was a very well-connected man who helped me form business relationships with influencers and other well-connected individuals in my abilities at JPM,” he said.

Staley claimed he was not the only high-level figure in Jpmorgan who has been in touch with Epstein.

“As a result of our knowledge in the financial services industry, there is no doubt that many senior investment bankers from JPM and other institutions are engaged in extensive email communications with other clients without becoming “close” to Mr. Epstein and other clients,” he said in a statement.

Staley said he regretted his relationship with Epstein, a major JPMorgan client, and claimed he was unaware of the “abhorrent” behavior of the serial pedophiles.

“If I had known about his monster's activity, I wouldn't have maintained a relationship and I would not have noticed,” he told the court.

However, the FCA said Jpmorgan, Staley's employer for over 30 years, told UK regulators a few days before they began an investigation and thought Staley could be involved in Epstein's crimes.

The Major Wall Street company told the FCA that it had information that it “indicated Mr Staley's involvement in criminal activity related to Mr Epstein's trafficking conviction.”

Mary Eldos, CEO of JPMorgan's assets and wealth management, was desperately sought Epstein's help after the Bernie Madoff Ponzi scheme denounced a bank's client in 2008.

According to the documents, Eldo desperately sent an email and asked Epstein to call.

Erdoes ended its banking relationship with Jpmorgan's Epstein in 2013, six months after Staley left the bank.

Staley said he believes Eldo cut off his ties with Epstein because he had withdrawn a large amount of cash.

In a statement from his witness, Staley alleged that he had not been informed of the issue during Jpmorgan.

However, he admitted that when an FCA lawyer presented an email from Epstein to Erdoes in 2011, he was inaccurate during the questioning. [an issue] reg[arding] Cash withdrawal. ”

Staley is also fighting the FCA on a letter sent by the Barclays who claim he is not approaching Epstein.

“This letter could have been better written,” Staley said. “I hope it's better processed. I'm probably not sitting here.”
