The dramatic and unexpected election results in Greenland saw that longtime heritage parties have come to power, and more right-wing pro-American politicians are set to take control of Congress for the first time.
The preliminary results of the Greenland election held on Tuesday show unpredictable historic results by pollsters, with the long-standing political establishment party being punished and demoted to third and fourth positions, respectively.
The election is amid a heated debate about Greenland's potential independence and global attention over President Donald Trump's repeated overtures to become part of the United States. As things stand, Greenland is now a former colonial master Denmark region, divided into left and right, as well as its politics are divided into camps of parental dependence and anti-independent nature.
The current Greenland government is the union of the largest party, the left-wing Inuit Atakatigit and the second largest left-wing Sium. Both parties are independent and not particularly friendly to America, and are not certain of Donald Trump. Voters punished both parties. Both parties have dominated Greenland politics since the 1970s, and yesterday they fell from 12 to 5 and 10 seats respectively.
If they now leave power, that seems almost certain, but this is the first time in Greenland's modern history that it has not been ruled by either the Inuit Atachigito or the Sium.

Currently, the largest party is the central Democrats, with vote shares skyrocketing 21 points and seats increasing from 3 to 10. Second place was the centralist Narerak, which increased 12.5 points, with four to eight times the seats.
Between them, these two political parties (independent) are sufficient to form a government, and it is likely that coalition negotiations will continue.
Importantly, Narerak has established himself as the most pro-American in Greenland politics. There's nothing like the Prodonald Trump Party, but that made it clear whether Narerak would come to power, but it would work closely with the United States as an independent, sovereign nation.
For President Trump, the election produces a Greenland government that at least works constructively with him, rather than rejecting the American overtures with non-emotional emphasis.
Certainly, Pere Broberg, leader of the Narelak Party. I wrote an opinion article In English usnews The day before the vote, he laid out in very clear terms what such a relationship would look like. Bloberg could potentially become a junior coalition partner rather than the future prime minister of Greenland's government under the European political system, but junior coalition partners can have a major impact on government policies.
Bloberg wrote on Monday that his party is the most enthusiastically non-independent of all Greenland factions, and has campaigned to promptly call for a Snap referendum, believing that his country could develop faster and earn greater profits without control from Europe.
In President Trump, Bloberg acknowledged the US president's interest in “mineral resources and oil and gas reserves” on the Arctic Island of less than 60,000 people, saying that Trump is more friendly to Greenlanders than the Danish government or the European Union.
He wrote:
…The US President provided US security assurances, financial support and, if necessary, US citizenship where it was necessary to choose to cut ties with Denmark.
Nevertheless, he said recent research in Greenland showed that citizens did not want to achieve independence just to be engulfed by another country, and the path he was prophesied was one of close alliances with the United States. This could be a “free association status” with Washington, such as “by Micronesian Pacific Islands, the Marshall Islands and the Palau.”
“We will gain support and protection from us in return for our military powers without becoming US territory,” Bloberg proposed.
