Juan Soto placed the ultimate flex on Heckler during the Mets' spring training game with the Cardinals on Monday.
While Soto was patrolling the correct field, fans of the green shirt cried out, “Overpaying, overrated!” The new $765 million star from the Mets stared at the man in a viral video circulating on social media.
The moment is said to have occurred before the bottom of three innings. With the same fan that was engulfing him when Soto broke the first pitch he saw on the fence.
Fans tried to catch a home run ball but fell to the ground as the Mets ultimately led 4-0 with an 8-0 victory.
The Mets gave Soto the richest contract in sports history in December. This is a 15-year agreement with a $75 million signature bonus, worth up to $855 million if the club voids the 26-year-old's opt-out five years after the contract.
So it's no surprise that he's a target for some fans.
Soto, who is expected to be second in the lineup behind Francisco Lindor, made a strong first impression with the Mets, making 8-8 on the plate on 8 walks in eight Homer, six RBIs and two spring training appearances.
He also attacked coach Eric Chavez.
Soto is back in the lineup of Wednesday's exhibited games with St. Louis on Jupiter.
They will be holding a regular season on the road against the Astros starting Thursday from two weeks.
