NYC mom admits she beat 7-year-old daughter to death — but son charged with molesting girl to go free

The mother of 7-year-old Julicia Battys admitted on Wednesday that she fatally beat her little daughter at a 2021 Bronx apartment, but her son was charged with abusing her child's sister.

Navasia Jones, 35, pleaded guilty to one count of manslaughter, as part of a deal with the Bronx District Attorney's Office to take full responsibility for Julicia's death, and to take her son, Paul Fein Jr. from Hook for the death of a girl and alleged sexual assault.

“We are expected to file a motion for denial on Friday,” Fine's attorney, Deveraux Cannick, said in a telephone interview. “When the complaint is filed, the charges are dismissed, records are sealed and Paul is fined, so the issue of bail becomes academic.

“It's a transaction that's done, but it's a matter of form that the court must officially file and receive the claim,” Kanic added.

Meanwhile, Jones pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in exchange for a 15-year sentence.

Jones' attorney Edward Sapone suggested that prosecutors “may have presented a problem” of the “specific nature and quality” of the trial evidence, and that prosecutors did not bring the case to trial.

“So we thought about it, negotiated, and ultimately thought that the certainty of a 15-year sentence would be the path for her,” he told reporters.

Da Darcel Clark did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Police discovered Julicia's ragtag body in Jones' apartment at the New York City Housing Authority's Mitchell House on August 10, 2021, causing Jones' investigation.

Jones told officers that her young girl fell down and slammed her head on the desk.

In June 2022, the fine was arrested for the death of a girl. And it is said that he admitted to sexually abusing the girl.

The fines charged with murder, assault and sexual abuse allegedly admitted during questioning that her mother punched her sister eight times in the face when she went to the store around 5am

A few hours later, he said Julicia had threw away and died, so his 35-year-old mom was called 911.

Then, last year – almost three years after Julicia's death, Jones was also arrested.

The case was deemed murder after the coroner said she had died of “blunt abdominal trauma.”

“Mom and siblings are both responsible,” a high-ranking police source said. “They both played a role in it, but it's not clear who's done the fatal blow.”

The incident shocked the Big Apple and sparked claims that the management of city's child service had failed the girl by bringing her back to her mother's home. There was a known history of violence and abuse.

Sources say officers have been convened six times in the municipal housing complex on Alexander Avenue over the past three years.

The last call came in March 2020, the source said.

In the heartbreaking audio recordings the post gets, young Julicia screams hysterically, asking her grandmother not to send her for a court-ordered weekend visit with her mother.

Despite her plea, Julicia was sent along with her four sons to visit her mother, who lost custody of the girl at birth, due to alleged negligence and physical abuse.

Against objections by her grandmother and court-appointed lawyer June 21st Last June, the city administration for child service on June 21st last year finally returned Julicia to live with her mother.

In court Wednesday, Julicia's grandmother, Yolanda Davis, shed tears when Jones admitted to killing the girl.
