Nearly half of Americans say economy worsening: Poll

Almost half of Americans said the economy is getting worse, according to Thursday. Economist/yougov poll.

48% of respondents said they thought the economy was getting worse, while 19% said it was getting better.

The vote took place between March 9th and 11th, including rough stock market days. On Monday, the stock market began its week with a severe loss. That day, the Dow Jones industrial average lost 890 points, down 2.1%.

The sale escalated on Monday, despite overwhelming economic data and Trump's tariff plans owing to stocks steadily.

President Trump's senior trade adviser, Peter Navarro, praised the state of the economy on Wednesday, from “bidenomics” to “trumpnomics.”

Polls found that most respondents are split into Trump's approach to the economy. 43% of respondents approved, while 47% disapproved.

Also, on Thursday, a Kinnipiac University poll found that most Americans disapproved of the president's handling of the economy. Another study from Reuters/Ipsos found that most people felt Trump's economic plans were “unstable.”

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick reiterated Navarro's views, saying former President Biden could be condemned of economic issues.

“The only reason there may be a recession is because of Biden nonsense we had to live with,” Lutnick said in an interview Tuesday.

A poll from economist/Yougov on Thursday found that Americans were split over whether the US economy is experiencing a recession. 37% of respondents said they thought so, while 32% said they disagreed. A third of respondents said they were not sure.

The poll featured a margin of 1,699 participants and an error of 3.2 percentage points as the margin of error.
