Missouri AG orders Planned Parenthood to stop medication abortions they don’t offer

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey issued a suspension order for the state's planned parent-child facility, banning them in order to prohibit them from offering medication abortions, even though they haven't provided them.

“Planned Parenthood has a documented history of overturning state laws, including impaired reporting complications,” Bailey said. press release It was published on Wednesday.

“This suspension and repeal letter ensures that basic health and safety standards are met. Given the history of Planned Parenthood, I will continue to assure them of compliance with state laws.”

Missouri voted to make abortion rights ens in the state constitution last November, but abortion services have been suspended and recently reopened at two planned parent-child clinics in the state. Planned Parenthood Great Rivers and Planned Parenthood Great Plains.

Both clinics began to launch only surgical abortions in Missouri this month. Because under state law, neither facility can provide abortion medication to patients until approval of the complication plan.

The order comes about a week after Bailey issues a notice of intent to file a ceasefire order to the Plannard parent-child clinic that allegedly violates Missouri law.

Bailey claims in a press release released with an order that the clinic is offering drug abortion without an approved complication plan.

Both Planned Parenthood Clinics said they have not provided medication abortions in accordance with state law, adding in a statement that they submitted a complication plan in February but have not yet received responses from the state Department of Health and Senior Services.

“An unfounded political stance,” said Margot Riphagen, CEO of Planned Parenthood Great Rivers.

“There's nothing to stop or stop,” she said in a statement sent to the hill. “Missouri's Center for Planned Parenthood and Child Health is complying with the law and is waiting several weeks for approval of the complication plan to begin offering medication abortions to patients.”

She added that the Attorney General should implement a Health and Senior Services Department timeline to address complication plans.

“Medication abortions are not available at Missouri health centers since 2018. We will not provide abortions until legal requirements are met.”

The Ministry of Health's Senior Services Department did not answer questions from Hill about the complicated plans submitted by both Planned Parenthood Health Clinics.
