The CNN host highlighted the criticism, citing a statement from Ford CEO Jim Farley that Trump's tariffs added “many costs and lots of confusion” to the auto industry.

“I told them to relax,” she said. “Don't ask anything scary.”

She added that Democrats currently have no vision, leader or mission, spreading fear among both Americans and the CEOs themselves. She argued that tariffs are a negotiation tool to fight for fair trade agreements that benefit the American people.

Sanchez pushes her over and asks if her argument is that the automotive industry CEO and Democrats work together to scare Americans and raise prices. McClain replied that all the necessary evidence to spread fear is on television.

“All you need to do is turn on the TV. Watch your show. It's nothing but horrifying,” McClain said as Sanchez scoffed.

“That's what Democrats are all about,” she added. “What is inflation doing? What is inflation? Do they go up and down? Ah, it's falling. What is the price of an egg?

“So here are two things. [The tariffs] It could be a potential problem, but in reality it could be a potential long-term solution. But when you don't want to cover the other half, and when you're only talking about half, of course, that's what you're going to hear. I want to give both sides of the story,” she said.

McLain lamented that “real newspapers” were previously unafraid of telling stories and providing context to both sides.

“Instead of tweeting everyone about it, 'Yes, the sky is falling, the sky is falling,'” she said. “Let's talk about our vision of what we're actually trying to do. It will reverse the negative course and get us back on track to respect America again.”
