President Donald Trump avoided closure by signing the government fundraising bill on Saturday, with the victory of Congressional president and Republicans.
The White House issued a press release Saturday afternoon, announcing that Trump had signed a bill that would fund the government until September 30th.
The ongoing resolution (CR), HR 1968, passed the House on Wednesday at a margin of 217-213, with all Republicans supporting it with the exception of Rep. Thomas Massey (R-KY). A Democrat, Rep. Jared Golden (me), will move the bill forward to the Senate along with House Republicans.
But it appeared that Democrats could own the closure Wednesday when Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said Republicans didn't have a vote on plans to move the bill to Trump's desk. The GOP had 53 seats in the Senate, and at least seven Democrats had to break with them with solidified votes to close the debate and allow CR floor votes.
Trump held the responsibility for a potential Democrat closure Thursday afternoon, speaking with reporters in his oval office.
“If there's a closure, it's just for the Democrats and they'll really take a lot away from our country and the people in our country,” he said.
Reports say Schumer told his colleagues he would vote to help the GOP break down during lunch Thursday, closing.
Trump praised Schumer on Friday morning.
“Congratulations to Chuck Schumer for doing the right thing. I've gotten the courage and courage! ” Trump wrote in the Truth Social Post.
“We're coming with a huge tax cut, an L.A. fire amendment, a debt cap bill,” he added. “We all need to cooperate in that extremely dangerous situation. Non-pass becomes a rural destroyer, and approval takes us to new heights.”
The Senate voted to end discussions on the 62-38 p.m. Friday, with nine Democrats and one independent vote bypassing the procedural hurdles in the GOP. bill I passed He voted 54-46 to the floor and proceeded to Trump.
