Hours before the law was signed, lawsuits were filed by the American Civil Liberties Union, Democracy Forward and the District of Columbia ACLU, claiming that the declaration could be used to deport Venezuelans in the country, regardless of whether they are members of the TDA or not.
US District Judge James E. Boasberg of the DC Circuit has granted a temporary restraining order that would prevent the deportation of five Venezuelans already in immigrant detention over two weeks.
