Dems ‘Owned’ Education and ‘Results Aren’t Good’, ‘Skeptical’ of Federal DOE

In the online “overtime” segment of HBO's “real-time” Friday broadcast, host Bill Maher said he was “skeptical” for the federal department of education, saying, “Because that's your portfolio, education. You own it, and the outcome is not good.”

In response to viewers' questions about the Trump administration, he said, “It could potentially slam the Department of Education and eliminate it.”

After Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro (D) said there are kids who rely on federal education funding, Maher said, “Yeah, I think the problem is really, the Department of Education is doing that? Right now they're probably doing some good work. I'm sure they're that. …But some of these places seem to be pouring money into people who haven't solved the problem.”

After talking about the environmental money spent on the last days of the Biden administration, Maher said: “I'm skeptical of the Department of Education, and I think every Democrat who runs it really needs to take on this issue because it's your portfolio, education. You own it and the results aren't good. Your kids aren't learning.”

Maher further said he believes there will be a negative impact from the Trump administration's cuts to sectors.
