Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) argued on Sunday in CNN's “Union Status” that many Americans wanted young fresh leadership when asked if Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) should stay in his role.
Crockett said: “I understand that Americans are frustrated. Believe that many of us were trying to appeal and impress the senators about the importance of pushing back to this moment, so we didn't sleep. As you saw, we had everything except one Democrat in the House who voted for this. It's 212 Democrats in the house. And you've got the majority of the senators either vote for it or voted against it. And the idea that Chuck Schumer is the only thing that has a brain in the room, and the only idea that you can think of through all the pros and cons is absolutely ridiculous.”
Host Jake Tupper said: Even Hakeem Jeffries, the Democratic leader of the House, is your leader. When asked if he would support Schumer as Senate Democrat leader, he said, “Next question: Do you think Senate Democrats should replace Chuck Schumer?”
“I think Senate Democrats have to sit down and see if Chuck Schumer is the one to lead at this moment and decide,” Crockett said.
She added: “I'm sure not only depends on any part of the spectrum you're in, but I'm sure many of us may be many of us, especially in New York, that many Americans may be looking for.”
