Karoline Leavitt Declines to Attend White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that it would skip dinner for the White House Correspondents Association, saying the organization has long been an exclusive club closing new independent media.

Leavitt I said She skips dinner scheduled for April 26th while appearing on Sean Spicer's podcast. Spicer served as President Donald Trump's spokesman for President Trump for the first six months of 2017.

“I won't attend the White House correspondent dinner. Shaun Spicer Show,” Levitt said.

“This is a group of journalists who have been covering the White House for decades,” she explained.

Leavitt continued. I don't think there's any more problem under this president, so media priorities have changed, especially in this new digital age. ”

A White House spokesman said the Correspondents “is an exclusive group of journalists covering this White House and does not open arms and welcome other people, new media, independent journalists, so I thought it was time to expand the coverage and decide who will ask the US president questions Oval's office.

“Since we began this new process of determining daily rotation, many new voices and outlets that have never been to this small, privileged group of journalists have access to a very unique and privileged space and have been able to cover this presidency.

Eugene Daniels, president of the WHCA board and politician correspondent, said the decision “shept tears at the independence of the US freedom press” was that the White House defended the move to modernize its pool of press and expand past legacy media. The Trump administration said three traditional wire services, the Associated Press, Bloomberg and Reuters, would not have a permanent location in the pool and instead would spin one spot with a group of 13 members.

Later on the White House AP has been banned from the press pool Ignoring Trump's executive order, which renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the US Gulf. U.S. District Judge Trevor N. McFadden warned that case law did not support the White House and planned for another hearing on March 20, but the ban was temporarily upheld in federal courts.

The President did not attend the correspondents' association dinner during his first term.
