Brotherly love.
Patrick Schwarzenegger and Sam Nibola's “White Lotus” characters, the Saxon and Lochlan Ratriff, brothers, kissed on Sunday's episode.
“We filmed it in a few different ways, and we talked a lot about it,” Nibola, 21, said of the incest scene. GQ. “I think it was supposed to be that they all really do f after all. And of course, kissing your siblings is incredibly wrong, weird and awful.”
“But, like in the case of 'White Lotus, I think it's kind of a heightened reality that comes from these crazy behaviors and really real emotions that are really relevant to your everyday guy,” Nibola continued.
The actor added Rochlan. “He's desperate for his brother's approval. He's doing the drugs of Saxon and this party. This is what Saxon keeps talking about, and what he's talking about is sex. He says, 'Sex is the main point of life. You need to be put. That's what you need.' I'm 'It's okay. Now, in this recharged sexual environment, what can I do to make you notice me and make you approve me? “And he does the wrong thing to make it happen. ”
The shocking kiss between Saxon and Rochlan happens when they try to impress Chelsea (Amy Loowood) and Chloe (Charlotte Trubong) as a foursome party after a Full Moon Party.
According to Nivola, he and the 31-year-old Schwarzenegger did not overly discuss the character's dynamics before the incest scene.
“I think that's what we decided to do with the instinct and the microphone. [White] The direction takes the reins and lets the audience interpret this strange thing we are doing. Because that's the way it is film and television,” Nibola explained.
“So we also didn't want to make difficult and quick decisions about what we wanted dynamics until we were set up.”
Nibola said “everything will change” for Rochlan in the aftermath of the kiss.
“It was basically like there were two versions of me. Before that, and then, that was really important,” he shared. “But other than that, I don't think that's a critical aspect of my character, Rochlan.”
“Of course, it's really creepy, like the way it was edited and the way it looked, and the moments that lead to it are really sexually recharged,” Nibola continued. “But I really think it should be a red herring for the audience. [that] Rochlan just wants attention, and he just wants his brother to like him. He really raises f-d and does awful things. ”
The “Maestro” actor told GQ that he was “not ready” to chat about the viral scene.
“I mean, I'm on Instagram. I don't have a lot of followers, so I don't know what it's like to have so many people who want to get in touch with you, whether it's positive or negative about what you're doing, because I don't have a lot of followers,” he explained. “Yeah, I have absolutely no idea what to expect, but I'm ready. I hope.”
said 31-year-old Schwarzenegger. today His character resembles a different trajectory after being with his brother.
“One of the themes is to really enter the white lotus as one person and leave as another,” he said. “Who are you when everything you thought you were taken away is taken away? And I think it's really relevant and common for Saxon. He walks into the white lotus as the most confident person about who he is, and his experience there makes everything completely questionable.”
In an exclusive interview with the post, David Bernad, executive producer of “The White Lotus,” said the kissing scenes were “not just for shock,” and White, 54, always has big plans.
“There are specific reasons for storytelling and there are bigger theme ideas that Mike is trying to convey,” Barnad said.
He added: The show goes there for bigger theme ideas. I love the stories of that family, especially the stories of my siblings. And it peaks in a very satisfying way. ”
“White Lotus” will air on HBO on Sunday at 9pm.
