JD Vance Confident TikTok Deal Will Be Reached by April Deadline

Vice President JD Vance has expressed optimism that a high level of agreement will be implemented in the United States to maintain China's Tiktok operations by the April 5 deadline set by President Donald Trump.

in Interview with NBC News Aboard the Air Force 2, Vice President JD Vance stated his belief that a framework for creating a “clear American Tiktok company” would be established by the April deadline, even if the final documents were not completed. The fate of the popular social media app has been uncertain since then-President Joe Biden signed bipartisan law last year when Tiktok signed Bayte Dance, the Chinese-based owner of Tiktok.

President Trump was left to Vice President Vance and national security adviser Michael Waltz to find a US-based buyer in Tiktok. On his first day in office, Trump signed an executive order directing the Attorney General to delay enforcement of the 75-day ban, effectively giving Tiktok until April 5th to secure U.S. buyers. The president expressed his hope that deals could be reached soon, saying the administration was discussing with four potential buyers groups, but he did not identify them. Trump has also expressed his willingness to grant extensions if the deadline does not finalize the transaction.

While bytedance has not publicly confirmed negotiations with potential US buyers or willingness to sell Tiktok, Vance suggested that administrative issues could drive the final decision on the contract past the April deadline. He said even small transactions with less capital often take months to close, with the administration looking to close the Tiktok deal by early April.

Vance, who worked for venture capital before entering politics as an Ohio Senator, stressed that the transaction outline was very clear, but the main concern is whether all necessary documents can be completed on time. He expressed his hope that expansion would not be necessary, but acknowledged that the new joint venture share ownership and contracts for investors, clients and service providers could take time to finalize.

Despite these challenges, Vance believes that Tiktok will continue to operate in the United States by meeting expansion or national security concerns and ensuring transactions that protect American data privacy. Over the past few months, we've been interested in getting an app with millions of users, with estimates of up to $50 billion.
