President Trump is heading the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) by tapping Republican Aviation President and CEO Brian Bedford.
“Brian brings over 30 years of experience in aviation and executive leadership to this important position,” Trump said. I said it in the truth social post. “Brian will work with our great Transport Secretary Sean Duffy to strongly reform the agency, protect exports and ensure the safety of the billion passenger movements of each year. Congratulations Brian!”
Trump's Monday Post follows recent turmoil surrounding the aviation industry in the wake of multiple notable plane crashes. The Clash raised questions about aviation safety in the first few months of the second Trump administration.
Bedford is currently president and CEO Republic Airlineswhich itself describes as “one of North America's largest regional aviation.” According to the airline's website, it offers American Eagle, United Express and Delta Connection-Branded Flights.
In 2022, the FAA denied Republic Air's demand to cut flight times required for new pilots by half if they attend airline training schools.
“We are disappointed that our petition to the FAA was not met with the reviews and engagement it deserves, but it's not surprising,” Bedford said in denial. “In spite of the opposing rhetoric, our proposal will increase safety by providing students with a highly structured, mission-specific training approach.”
Earlier this month, the New York Times reported that Transport Secretary Sean Duffy had alleged at a cabinet meeting that government efficiency department staff had tried to fire the air traffic controller.
