The pause is not a direct result of UPenn's investigation. This was announced by the Ministry of Education the day after the president signed an executive order “Excludes men from women's sports” on February 5th.
The representative vice-secretary of civil rights trainers said in a statement provided by the department last month that three agencies will be investigated for alleged violations of Title IX.

Upenn made headlines for the first time during the 2022 season, when transgender student-athlete Lia Thomas was placed on the women's team and eventually won the National Championship title in the women's 500-yard freestyle.
