Miami, Florida. – It's a full moon in Biscayne Bay as Florida's Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials set out on nightly patrols as they keep an eye on boating and environmental violations. While South Florida FWC officials are dealing with drunk party attendees on the water, they also help protect the state's borders from ships that are trying to smuggle into illegal immigrants.
Blaze Media was able to ride with the FWC day and night in the Miami area, allowing us to see how the crackdown on illegal immigration ordered by Governor Ron Desantis (R) was deploying on the 1st line of defense from incoming ships.
The main mission of the FWC Soldier Officer is to “protect “natural resources and people” through aggressive and responsive law enforcement services. Because agents have statewide jurisdiction and operate not only on land but also on water, the FWC is the agency that Florida uses to lift personnel to intercept boats carrying illegal immigrants.
Both days, the Waters at Biscayne Bay were calm as Blaze Media was at the FWC. The Atlantic Ocean was a bit interrupted, but it was still sailable. The FWC will assist in carrying out blocking missions between the US Border Patrol and the US Coast Guard. While landings from countries like Haiti and Cuba are nothing new to southern Florida, President Donald Trump has a new passion for using administrative agencies to secure borders.
In the middle of the night, FWC officials patrol various cuts between the island and the key. Boats that want to unload illegal immigrants on the Miami coast must pass through those waterways, giving officers the advantage of intercepting.
“We'll see what the Fed has for their targets, but yes, whatever the target they've given us, our goal is to meet and exceed that.”
Officials said there was an increase in attempts to land a vessel a few weeks before President Donald Trump took office, but there was a noticeable slowdown in the weeks since.
Their mission is not limited to patroling water. Agent I recently made history After arrests accused the first illegal immigrant of being illegally present in Florida, it is now a national crime. It is a felony for an illegal alien to re-enter the state if he had been deported or removed previously.
FWC officials arrested Felipe Hernandez Chavalia for felony trespassing. When he was booked at the Brevard County Jail, he was originally from Mexico and was discovered to have been taken from the United States by the Border Patrol in 2019.
In February, the Miami FWC was the chief body for the arrest of Edgar Estard Valenzuela. charging By throwing rocks and injuring the great white heron, considered an endangered species. After his arrest, Valenzuela gained federal custody for being in the United States illegally.
The FWC is just one of many law enforcement units working to make Florida the number one state to help resolve the serious immigration crisis created by the Biden-Harris administration. All 67 Florida sheriffs have signed contracts with U.S. immigration and customs enforcement agencies to actively help ice agents arrest illegal immigrants.
“We'll see what we have against their targets, but yes, whatever the target they give us, our goal is to meet and exceed that, 100%,” DeSantis previously said of the state goals for the joint mission.
“I think it's really smart to use Gitmo strategically. If there are countries that don't accept citizens, you can't detain them indefinitely on the mainland, and you can't go back to your community,” Desantis says. “We're way ahead of the Florida curve.”
