‘Light on leadership’: Kane joins Tuchel in criticising England at Euro 2024 | England

Thomas Tuschel provided a poignant rating of England's performance under Gareth Southgate in Euro 2024, saying that he had no “hunger” and “identity” last summer.

In the signs of his predecessor's time and his desire to take a clean break, Tuchel pretended to be diplomacy. The Germans were straightforward at England's labor performances at the tournament where fans and critics turned on Southgate.

Southgate brought the immature youngster to the Euro and caused a surprise inside the camp by excluding advanced players such as Harry Maguire, Jack Grelish and Jordan Henderson who were handed a shock recall for Chuchel last week. Henderson's return was supported by Kane. Kane praised the midfielder's ability to lift his teammates in difficult moments.

I was upset when Chuchel's efforts in England's efforts were made public last year. Asked by ITV if he thought the team had a clear way to play before appointment, the head coach said, “No, not last summer.”

Tuchel, who was in charge of the first game when England held Albania in Wembley on Friday and Latvia on Monday to open the World Cup Qualifying Campaign, did not erode integrity after being forced to go missing. “Identity, clarity, rhythm, repeating patterns, player freedom, player expression, hunger.” “They were more afraid of dropping out of the tournament with my observations than to be excited and hunger to win.”

The goal is to restore the excitement of British play. “It was the feeling I was watching on TV, long before I knew I was going to be in charge,” Tuchel said. “We want you to play hungry to win, and we want to implement unity and joy to win, not fear of losing.”

Tuchel came up with the notion that shirts weigh heavily on English players. “I know what players mean,” he said. “It could be another way to put what you felt like watching the Euro. I felt the tension and pressure in the players' shoulders.

“We need to turn this around because we have a lot of experienced players, a lot of players who have won trophies with the club. I think we all have the right to be confident.”

Kane, who has known Tuchel since his time in Bayern Munich, had a similar view on the Euro. “Maybe we haven't played as freely as we've done in the past. “Thomas definitely wants a higher tempo, especially without the ball. When you lose the ball, it's just energy.

“We create the vibe almost ourselves, especially at home in Wembley, with these games. That's what we're trying to do. It's a new beginning. It was a really successful time with Gareth and was successful in the era of British football. We made it to two finals.

Part of the reason for bringing Henderson back to 34 is the leadership of the former Liverpool captain. “I don't think it's about having the best player at the best moments whenever I go to a major tournament,” Kane said. “It’s about allowing others to thrive and creating an environment where people know their roles within the team.

“I think we're a bit lighter in summer leadership, especially when things aren't going well or there's a lot of noise around camp, that's when you need a player like me or someone like Jordan. It's great to have him.

Tuchel added: “If you say something at a press conference, you've addressed it to the player. There's no message given through you. You need to implement a fearless communication style.”
