Former Clinton strategist says Democrats are ‘in ruins,’ predicts major ‘wipeout’ in 2026 midterms

Mark Penn, a political poller and former strategist for Hillary Clinton, predicted that Democrats will face a “sweep” of another election during the mid-term 2026 Congress.

in op-edPenn claimed that the Democrats deviated too much from the original party's platform, sacrificing votes and popularity.

“The new Republicans are in a position to deepen their support with these lapsed Democrat voters.”

“Democrats have faced the worst ratings in decades, including my polls, and so on, and fell to 29%, down from 62% in 2008 in CNN polls,” Penn said. “The reason is pretty clear. After the 2024 election, voters reassessed the work President Joe Biden did and began to scratch their heads at the actions and position of the Democratic Party in Congress.”

“Unless there's a massive reset, I think there will be an unexpected wipeout in next year's midterm elections.”

Penn pointed to policies previously held by Democrats, as if they were shrinking strict immigration policies and government. Since then, Democrats have been the face of DEIs, open boundaries, and hypersensitive social values that embrace unpopular issues such as transgenderism and climate change.

“In stages, Democrats have drifted out of these policies that have generated a close to 75% approval rating for Clinton,” Penn said. “As tax rates rose and Obamacare began, tax and spending returned to his Obama days. He moved decisively to the left in the last two years of his presidency.”

What was once considered radical has become common in Democrats. This ideological shift was crested in the election of former President Joe Biden. He says that Penn “apparently abandoned virtually every position he took as a moderate senator for over 50 years.”

“By the time he set out on an oval office, left and a series of extreme policies, he reshaped the Democrats from the working and middle classes into a coalition of elite and black voters,” Penn said.

As a result of this incredible change, President Donald Trump swept all seven swing states and secured a popular vote. Penn predicted his historic victory in November 2024 would have a trickle-down effect in the mid-2026.

“The result is a debatable Democrat who has to wait for the next bill to come and reset again and return to its common-sense middle class roots,” Penn said. “Otherwise, the new Republicans are in a position to deepen their support with these lapsed Democrat voters.”
